2 x 4 of Wisdom
Have you ever used the expresison "It hit me like a 2x4" when something so simple or obvious finally sinks in? Or if your spouse can't get you to see their point of view, have they ever asked in exasperation, "Do I have to hit you with a 2x4?" Not really meaning it, of course.

A number of years ago, at a religious retreat for men, as the retreat got going and men began to see their life, their faith and themselves in a whole new light, a common expression used was "It hit me like a 2x4!"
When I returned to my shop after the retreat, as a joke, I made the small 2x2. The handle of the 2x4
was rounded without the use of a lathe. Using saw, chisel and sandpapers turned the trick.
When I showed it to some friends who attended the same retreat, the idea came up to make a larger 2x4 and get a verse from scripture that is line with getting smarter. So I came up with the other 2x4 and the verse you see.

This 2x4 has been brought to each retreat since and memorializes who was in charge, when it was held and what verse from scripture was the guiding word.

What about the first 2x4? It was burnt to commemorate the retreat that spawned the 2x4.
At the next retreat it was presented to the first retreat's diredtor as a Thank You.
